Sparkling alone

I love the roles that Johnny Depp ever played, for they might be supernatural yet real, merciless yet passionate, ego-centric yet devoted.  I cannot narrow down his performance to some specific category, and I never expected to, but each of his movies presented him as a combination of mistery and idolness, waiting for a wild guess or a light touch.

Thus, I would rather label him as a creature born for roles.  He shall go on sailing through the ocean of film-making, bringing to life more roles than what we could bear our witness and hesitate to admit a possible failure of the taste. 

A demon barber, a freak captain, or a simple head-cutter, Johnny Depp is not limited in styles, but obviously he matches most the atmosphere of disbelief, hatred, betrayal or conspiracy.  His fatally killing smiles and the eyes with permanent radiance of sorrows and sentiments reject too ordinary a character or too normal a life, thus prohibits him from telling a past instead of a tale, a history instead of a fiction, a relationship instead of a romance.

That is also the reason why only Tim Burton could lift him up to the stage on which he as the only star sparkles alone and shadows all the rest.  The director and the actor are not of much difference.  Too heroic George Lucas or too serious Steve Spielberg does not need Johnny's talents, for what they need is too "real" for this sparkling star.
